New York City officials say Amazon paid millions in unpaid environmental fines linked to delivery truck pollution and vehicle idling violations.

Zohran Mamdani announced that New York City successfully recovered more than $9 million in unpaid fines tied to Amazon delivery vehicle idling violations. Officials said the penalties were linked to trucks illegally running engines for extended periods, contributing to air pollution across the city.

According to city authorities, Amazon and its delivery contractors were among the largest offenders under New York’s anti-idling laws. The Department of Finance reportedly worked with Amazon to recover the outstanding fines.

Some viral posts framed the story as Mamdani forcing Jeff Bezos personally to pay the fines. However, the fines were reportedly issued against Amazon’s delivery network and contractors rather than Bezos directly.
