China has gifted 21 modern fire and rescue vehicles to Islamabad in a major upgrade to the capital’s emergency-response and firefighting capabilities. The vehicles and equipment are valued at approximately Rs. 3 billion.

The new fleet includes an advanced snorkel fire tender capable of reaching around 88 metres, allowing firefighters to respond to emergencies in high-rise buildings more effectively than existing equipment.

The vehicles are expected to arrive in Pakistan in September and will help replace Islamabad’s ageing firefighting fleet, strengthening the city’s ability to respond to fires, road accidents and other emergencies.

The donation comes at a time when Islamabad’s emergency infrastructure is facing renewed attention following a recent fire at PIMS, which reportedly killed 14 newborn babies. The tragedy has increased calls for better fire-safety equipment and emergency preparedness in the capital.

The latest assistance further highlights the ongoing Pakistan-China partnership, extending cooperation into public safety and emergency-response infrastructure.
