Health experts say watermelon’s high water content and natural nutrients may support overnight hydration and recovery, though eating too much before sleep could disrupt rest for some people.
Nutrition experts say watermelon can help support hydration because it contains around 91–92% water along with nutrients such as potassium, antioxidants, vitamin C, and citrulline. Some studies also suggest it may assist with post-workout recovery and muscle soreness.
Viral claims online state that eating watermelon before bed can help people wake up feeling lighter and refreshed due to hydration and nutrient support. While experts agree watermelon is hydrating and contains beneficial compounds, there is limited scientific evidence specifically proving major overnight recovery benefits from eating it before sleep.
Some health sources also warn that eating large amounts before bed may increase nighttime bathroom trips because of watermelon’s very high water content.
Disclaimer:
Watermelon can be part of a healthy diet, but individual digestion, sleep quality, and nutritional needs vary. Scientific evidence for specific “overnight recovery” effects remains limited.
