Pakistan is set to establish its first coal-powered fertilizer complex under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), marking a major industrial and agricultural investment.

Pakistan is moving forward with plans to build its first coal-based fertilizer complex under the China–Pakistan Economic Corridor in a project valued at approximately $1.12 billion.
The announcement was made by Fatima Fertilizer, which stated that the project is expected to use coal resources from the Thar coalfields and help reduce Pakistan’s dependence on imported fertilizer raw materials. Reports indicate the facility could significantly strengthen domestic fertilizer production while supporting agricultural growth and food security.
According to company officials, the proposed complex will be developed as part of broader industrial cooperation under CPEC and is expected to create employment opportunities while increasing local manufacturing capacity. The project is also aimed at lowering production costs by utilizing locally available energy resources.
Industry analysts say the investment reflects Pakistan’s continued effort to expand industrial infrastructure and attract large-scale Chinese-backed projects despite ongoing economic challenges. The development could become one of the largest fertilizer-sector investments in the country in recent years.
